This curriculum area offers learning in key purposeful activities that may stimulate future aspirations, areas of self-interest, or to support skill development in conjunction with work placements and future employment. Subjects are taught by teachers who are specialists within each subject area.Ìý
Learning is through practical engagement, individual to the learner ability,Ìý structured and delivered to ensure accessibility, increased independence and success.
This area of the curriculum supports learning in communication and social interactions, enterprise, and everyday living skills, such as planning, problem solving, sequencing and sorting.Ìý
ÌýWe offer the following subjects: creative arts, performing arts, music, catering, creative media (photography, digital imagery, video), IT, sport and gardening
Learners can achieve accredited awards and certificates at varying levels up to Level 1.
Where relevant and appropriate, learners will have an opportunity to progress to further vocational learning at local mainstream further education colleges.
Music
We have individual music rooms and a recording studio where learners access a range of musical instruments and equipment,Ìý experiencing a range of musical activities and learning a range of music skills, including:

- Playing an instrument
- Repairing and maintaining musical equipment

Performing arts/drama
Based in our fully equipped Wolfson Theatre, young adults develop individual and group performing skills in a range of activities, such as mime, acting, improvisation, role play, stage craft, sensory movement and dance via the access of immersive theatre technology.
Our students also develop technical skills, such as directing, lighting, operating sound equipment, of live performances and work across curriculum areas, such as music and the creative arts. Numeracy and literacy skill learning is embedded within the teaching and learning sessions. There are opportunities to contribute to the creation, planning, rehearsal and performance of college productions. We also undertake workshops led by external theatre groups and take part in various local performing arts events such as the Brighton Fringe Festival.
Sport
All young people are encouraged take part in a level of physical exercise to maintain good health and socialize with staff and peers. A range of sports can be undertaken such as: football, basketball, cricket, table tennis, fitness circuits, cycling, swimming, yoga, dance and movement.
Lewes FC has provided football coaching and learners have undertaken work experience placements at local sports and leisure clubs.
One young residential learner has a part time job as a ball boy for Southwick FC, organised by his keyworker. He has since done some fantastic work there and made good contacts. This is a good example of our commitment to micro-enterprises.
